Hagstrom HB-8 8 string Octave courses Fretted Short Scale Bass

Posted on June 17, 2013

Well, this is a fun toy.... :-D And in Transparent Cherry Red! Includes matching hard shell Hagstrom Tweed case!
~~~ Chinese :-( built re-issue of the famous bass used on Axis: Bold as Love and Presence, among other classic albums
~~~ HUGE improvements over the original design
~~~ great wood, great acoustic properties, great electrics
~~~ poor Q/A and poor setup/final assembly, but that was all solvable with some DIY fixes

    8-string bass. Bad ass. I can hear Doug Pinnick just looking at it.

    Very cool, and I bet the left hand would be really tricky. The gauge is so thick I you probably have to flat finger it a lot to get both of them down. Definitely a unique bass!

    Yes, exactly! It's challenging to play with the left fingering hand... the smaller strings are on top relative to gravity, so you're sort of reaching around the larger bass string to make sure you're pressing the narrow octave string hard enough not to buzz. But with the octave strings being on top, the right hand actually works with finger style playing since you hit the heavy string and sort of play through the smaller octave string after it on the way to the body of the bass. But honestly picks work better yet...

    Biggest difference between this and a 12 string guitar - 12 strings sound amazing for strummed chords. this bass will destroy your self confidence as a bassist if you try to play large chords in the lower frets LoL

    Wow, I've never seen anything like this. That's awesome. Is the concept kind of like a 12 string guitar?
